Before you dive too deep into our RV buying guide, every first-time camper buyer should take a moment to ask themselves these initial questions:
- Why do you want an RV?
It’s important to scrutinize your intentions so you don’t end up overpaying for something you never actually use. It’s also important to recognize that different types of RVs are suited to different lifestyles and needs. Do you want an RV so you can travel throughout the country at your leisure and always have a comfortable place to stay? Do you want one so you can have luxurious accommodations even while camping?
- How often will you use your RV?
Are you going to live out of this RV for most of the year, or use it only occasionally for summer vacations? Is this an investment you see paying off week after week, or is it just something to use periodically?
- Who will be using your RV with you?
One of the most important variables you’ll need to consider when purchasing an RV is size. Bigger RVs tend to be harder to haul and more expensive, but they’re necessary if you’re hosting lots of people. How many people will be living in your RV with you?
- How much can you afford to spend?
Finally, you’ll need to think about how much you can afford to spend. We’ll address this question in more detail in a future section, but for now, think about how much disposable income you have, your current financial needs, and how those needs might change in the future.
